Creating gorgeous floral designs to lift the spirits of the healthcare heroes battling COVID-19 was the purpose behind the Floral Tribute to the Front Line Medical Heroes held at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla.
The Yola Guz, AIFD, School of Floral Design and Ruben Consa AIFD, PFCI, were the creative forces behind the event, where several local floral artists came together to bring smiles and cheer to those sacrificing so much to care for others during this pandemic.
“The doctors and nurses need moral support, and the flowers lifted their spirits immediately,” said Consa, adding that the response from the medical staff was overwhelmingly positive. “This has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my professional career.”
He says he hopes events like this inspire other designers to create a floral movement that could grow nationally or even globally. “We want to encourage others in our industry to do the same in their own city, state or country,” says Consa. “It’s about giving back to our community and humanity in general.”
Deborah De La Flor, AIFD, who attended the Floral Tribute as President of the Florida State Florists Association and created one of the designs, spoke on behalf of FSFA and AIFD along with AIFD President Jackie Lacey, AIFD.
“The event honoring our heroes in Miami was Yola and Ruben’s wonderful idea,” she said. “The media came out in support of the project wonderfully, and the designs created by all of the floral artists were magnificent!
