Technology, Keeping Us Connected

In this challenging time of a pandemic, staying in touch with each other is so important. I am thankful for technology that is helping fill the void of not being together in person. The video conference platform has been amazing in providing a solution for staying connected in both personal and professional lives.

My kids have been doing online school via zoom since March. Though it is not ideal I am still so thankful as it provides a place for children to connect “face to face”. It gives my kids a sense of community that they are lacking right now. People are also using video communication to stay connected to family and friends. When we cannot be together in person it is the next best thing.

In our AIFD group we are using video conferences to allow our boards and to conduct meetings. I prefer it to the old way of a phone conference. It makes me happy to “see” my floral friends, not just talk to them. I think we will adopt some of these ideas after the pandemic.

New floral virtual education is on the rise, as well. I think it is an amazing way to learn when you can’t do it in person. It is also providing an opportunity for floral educators to offer online classes. This can be very valuable even when the pandemic is over. Through this pandemic I have also seen the growing number of virtual floral competitions. They are a lot fun and I encourage you to participate in one.

We have to adapt during these changing times. Reach out to your family and friends and don’t be afraid to try new ways to communicate and learn. Technology is helping keep us all connected.
