“Contemporary Sympathy Design and Modern Reception Décor” With Liz Stocker, AIFD
WOOSTER, OH – Students at The Ohio State University capped off a challenging academic year with an inspiring Artist-in-Residence program presented by Liz Stocker, AIFD, of New Philadelphia, Ohio. During the workshop, Liz, an Ohio State ATI Floral Design and Marketing graduate, shared a wealth of creative design ideas and inspiration focusing on contemporary sympathy design and modern reception décor.
During her March workshop, Liz walked the students through her process for creating meaningful, personalized funeral designs. Students had the opportunity to design European-inspired funeral wreaths incorporating thematic accessories in keeping with common hobbies and passions. Switching gears, the second half of the workshop centered on large reception décor. An exciting group project involved construction of a sculptural elevated garland suitable for a banquet table. Wire mesh served as the decorative armature into which students added abundant layers of fresh and dried florals along with tinted plumosa and volumes of gypsophila. The result was a spectacular and festive fantasy creation.
Liz capped her presentation with highlights of her professional career and tips for progressing through the AIFD® process. Supplies for the workshop were generously provided by Smithers-Oasis.
