City College of San Francisco: Back To In-Person Education

The Floristry program at City College of San Francisco begins to safely move back to In-Person instruction for their 2022 spring semester. The department has navigated their curriculum online through Canvas, Zoom and Videos. Classes were either synchronously or asynchronously, adapting to the needs of students during the covid pandemic. The pivotal training, and new skills learned by instructors and students during these times, will not only enhance the future classroom experience but provided practical experience for careers in Floristry. The programs temporary remote online platform provided students the opportunity to take classes in the department that could not before. Also, these challenging times proved the Floral industry is essential in our lives and City College of San Francisco provides an important pathway to the much-needed industry workforce.

In-Person instruction is vital, and the preferred choice for instructors and most students at City College of San Francisco in the Floristry program. It provides optimum growth for the student’s career goals. The department provides a superb floral design facility that enhances the learning experience cohesive to the floral industry. The department is looking forward in 2022 to utilize their operations again so that students have more of the practical hands-on experience.

The Floristry program began in the 1930’s giving the Environmental Horticulture and Floristry Department an impressive nationwide and international reputation. The department has an active Student Chapter of the American Institute of Floral Designers, consistently receiving national awards for design excellence. All instructors in the Floristry program are AIFD accredited members. The Floristry program offers a complete curriculum. Students may earn an Associate of Science Degree (A.S.) and specialized Certificates of Achievement. Looking forward, Steven Brown AIFD, Department Chair and Jenny Tabarracci AIFD, Retail Floristry Coordinator, will present a main stage program at the AIFD National Symposium 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The program includes a team of impressive City College of San Francisco alumni that will Innovate, Cultivate and Educate Sustainable Floral Design.
