In early April 2025, 1,600 people came together to attend the 112th First Lady’s Lunch in Washington DC. The Congressional Club Museum and Foundation has hosted this event since its inception.

Considered one of Washington’s most exciting and historic events, the First Lady’s Luncheon is a gathering of spouses of current and former members of Congress, Administration officials, business leaders, philanthropists and friends of the Congressional Club Museum and Foundation to honor the First Lady and to champion bi-partisan community service. ~The Congressional Club Website
And, of course, no special occasion is complete without flowers! Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Certified American Grown, the “Sand and Steel” theme was brought to life with stunning floral artistry. Seventeen farms and companies contributed products and services to ensure American Grown flowers took center stage at the nation’s capital.
A dedicated team of 30 volunteers—including floral designers, flower farmers, coordinators, and support crew—worked tirelessly to transform the venue. Among them were seven proud members of AIFD, whose talent and professionalism shone brightly throughout the project.

Over the 3 work days that it took to bring it all together, the full floral team created and installed 143 centerpieces, 3 photo-ops, over 200’ of décor to flank the VIP entrance walkway, 60’ of head table décor, and countless cocktail and accent arrangements to be placed throughout the venue.

The teamwork and camaraderie were as inspiring as the final results. Designers and creatives from all corners of the floral industry came together in harmony—working side by side with respect, admiration, and a shared passion for their craft. The workroom was filled with laughter, smiles, and meaningful collaboration.
One of the most touching moments came when this year’s Chairwoman, Jane Mrvan of Indiana, saw the fully decorated space for the first time. Her heartfelt tears of joy reminded us all why we do what we do.

The Congressional Club was thrilled with the final result, and our team was honored to support both one another and the mission of Certified American Grown. Their ongoing advocacy aims to secure legislation ensuring that American Grown flowers are exclusively used in the White House, at State Dinners, and at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

If you’re inspired and would like to be a part of this remarkable event next year, be sure to follow Certified American Grown—and keep an eye out for the Call for Volunteers in early 2026!
