Ian Prosser AIFD: A Legacy of Artistry, Education and Service

For more than half a century, Ian Prosser AAF, AIFD, NDSF, PFCI, has helped shape the floral industry through extraordinary artistry, generous mentorship and an unwavering commitment to professional education. Ian is also an AIFD Laureate, honoring his decades of membership and continued support of AIFD National Symposium.
Inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers in 1992, Ian has spent more than three decades representing the excellence, creativity and service at the heart of AIFD. As a member of the Southern Chapter, he has generously shared his knowledge, supported fellow designers and inspired floral professionals across generations, including myself.
Ian has also brought his unmistakable talent and experience to the stages of AIFD National Symposium.
At the 2012 AIFD National Symposium “Caliente” in Miami, Ian presented the main-stage program “Les Saisons des Fleurs de Mariage,” with commentary by internationally recognized wedding publisher Grace Ormonde. The program celebrated the grandeur, emotion and artistry of wedding design.
During AIFD’s 2018 National Symposium “Discover” in Washington, D.C., Ian participated in a business panel exploring distinctive business models and how floral professionals can identify their niche, expand their services and create new opportunities.
He returned to the AIFD Symposium stage in 2024 for “Weddings Unveiled,” presented alongside his daughter and Botanica creative director, Zoë Gallina, AAF. Together, they shared techniques for translating romance and a couple’s personal story into sophisticated floral and event designs.
Ian has done far more than showcase beautiful flowers. He has opened the curtain on the creative process, technical knowledge and business experience behind extraordinary events, giving designers practical information they can carry into their own work.
Ian’s floral journey began at age 16 in Glasgow, Scotland. By 19, he had already been named Scotland’s Designer of the Year. He later earned the National Diploma of the Society of Floristry, one of Europe’s most respected floral-design qualifications.
After establishing his career in Scotland, Ian moved to Tampa, Florida, and founded Botanica Design Studio in 1989. Under his leadership, Botanica developed into an internationally recognized event-design company. Ian’s portfolio includes events for Queen Elizabeth II and Elton John, as well as Presidential inaugurations of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. For President Bush’s second inauguration, he served as Floral Design Chairperson, helping select and direct 160 floral professionals. His professional accomplishments also include induction into the American Academy of Floriculture in 1994 and Professional Floral Communicators International in 2007.
That same year, Ian won the Society of American Florists’ prestigious Sylvia Cup Design Competition. He was named Event Designer of the Year at the 2010 Event Solutions Spotlight Awards and received SAF’s Paul Ecke Jr. Award in 2012 for his devotion to the floral profession, industry and community.
In 2024, SAF presented Ian with its President’s Award in recognition of the more than 20 years he volunteered as chair of the organization’s annual convention design team. In that role, he developed concepts, guided volunteer designers and created memorable floral experiences for convention attendees.
Yet Ian’s legacy cannot be measured by prestigious clients, remarkable events or awards alone.
During 18 years as a member of FTD’s Education Team, he traveled throughout the United States and internationally, teaching design techniques, sharing business knowledge and encouraging floral professionals to reach beyond what they believed was possible.
Since 2017, his “Intern with Ian” program has welcomed floral professionals into his studio for hands-on education and mentorship. Through this program, his AIFD presentations, industry workshops and countless personal conversations, Ian has influenced the careers of thousands of designers.
He is an active member of FSFAI – Florida State Florist Association International, being a mentor to many at our Mentorship Program, exclusively to FSFAI Members.
In August, 2026, the Society of American Florists recognized Ian’s lifetime of artistry, leadership, education and service by inducting him into the Floriculture Hall of Fame – the floral industry’s highest honor. The presentation took place during the Stars of the Industry Awards Ceremony at SAF’s 141st annual convention in Amelia Island, Florida.
During his acceptance remarks, Ian once again directed attention toward the next generation, encouraging established professionals to take someone under their wing and help that person become the very best they can be.
That message captures Ian Prosser’s true contribution to our profession.
For the AIFD Southern Chapter, it is a tremendous honor to celebrate one of our own – a designer whose creativity has elevated our profession, whose education has strengthened AIFD and whose generosity continues to enrich our floral family.
