As we move into the new season, I’ve been reflecting on how much transition mirrors the work we do as floral designers. Just as summer gives way to autumn, leadership is also about guiding through change — balancing tradition with innovation, honoring the past while looking ahead with fresh ideas.
In floral design, we know that transitions are not abrupt; they are layered, textured, and full of opportunities to blend what was with what’s to come. The same is true for our industry and our community. It’s in these moments of change that creativity thrives, and where new possibilities take root.
I encourage each of you to embrace this season as a reminder that growth often happens in the in-between spaces. Whether it’s experimenting with new techniques, mentoring an emerging designer, or finding fresh ways to connect with clients, each of us has the chance to shape what’s next. Take a look at the list below to see what’s coming up in your regional chapters, find ways to connect and reconnect!
On a deeply personal note, I feel compelled to share my heartbreak over the tremendous loss our flower family has recently endured. The passing of Ron Mulray AIFD, has left a void not only in my life, but in the lives of so many across the North East Chapter and around the world. Ron was a true force within our community—mentoring, inspiring, and welcoming countless floral enthusiasts into our fold. His dedication to students and the next generation of designers was unmatched.
To me, Ron was more than a colleague. He was a visionary, a showman, and, with great affection, our “nutty professor.” He was both a dear friend and a mentor who helped guide me onto the path that led me to where I am today. Ron shined, he sparkled, and he brought joy and creativity into every moment. In every way possible, I will miss my partner in flower fun.
Together, we will continue to create beauty — not just in our work with flowers, but in the way we support and inspire one another as professionals.
In Flowers and Friendship,
Renee Tucci AIFD PFCI AAF
