In 1935, Congress declared the first Sunday of August as National Friendship Day. The idea of a day to celebrate our friends is not just an American one, in that Friendship Day is celebrated all over the world. While this day has been set aside, we may all agree that celebrating Friendship cannot be reserved for only one day!
Attending AIFD® Symposium, though centered around the advancement of floral design education and accreditation, we find it to be a social gathering as well. Though some may meet for a brief moment to exchange a thought or comment on a design technique, many friendships expand over decades as ones of counsel and support.
AIFD® history is filled with stories of friendship. The very essence began with friends, of mutual interest, looking to establish an organization centered around floral design. Later, when a floral designer was lost at a young age, friends gathered to establish a scholarship in his name, which led to the establishment of the AIFD Foundation.
This year, in 2023, we choose Chicago and July 1-6 to celebrate Friendship, and we have a few ideas of just how you can begin the celebration now!!
