Jody Mcleod AIFD won the NCFA Florist of the Year 2024 during the annual convention as well as the NC Jim Treadaway Interpretive Design Cup competition which is his 3rd win and he will be entering the NC Hall of Fame in 2025. His piece “Peace Surrounded by Chaos” featured pedestals stacked and incorporated the triangle panels made out of foam core. Midnight Foam is placed into the large Square Smithers design dish. This is the first time the art has been just black and white and full of triangles and repetition of stagnant lines. The print truly lends itself to interpretation. Jody states that his favorite aspect was creating the prop. He states that props don’t have to be complex but more importantly they have to be impactful.
Our Southern Chapter members turned out for Gateway to the Americas Cup. The prestigious design competition was founded in 1996 by Gus and Deborah De La Flor AIFD to promote the art of floral design, education and camaraderie within the floral community throughout the Americas. Susana Ortega AIFD, Jenna Sleeman AIFD, and Michael Smith AIFD were part of the 33 competitors. Congratulations to Michael Smith AIFD for achieving a top 10 position in the competition. Other Southern Chapter members were also in attendance.
