‘ORGANICS’ Sostenible con Flores, the 3rd virtual workshop in the ELEMENTS OF INSPIRATION series with Gregor Lersch and Hitomi Gilliam AIFD, was 4 weeks of challenging everyone to design 100% ORGANIC designs.
The class consisted of four lecture/demos covering ORGANIC Vertical, Horizontal, and Hanging Designs. The students also took part in a full session on up close look at all the techniques, mechanics, and alternative supplies that are useful in going ORGANIC. In the process, we all learned to identify what’s compostable, biodegradable, recyclable and what ends up in the landfill as pollutants. There was a lot of contributions of ideas and sourcing of materials from the participants that collectively enriched the learning.
There were 6 Student Review Sessions totaling over 30 hours with Gregor and Hitomi discussing the 100% Organic designs created by the students, representing 12 countries. The works presented in these sessions were diverse, thoughtful, creative, innovative, and absolutely some of the most beautiful… all 100% Organic!!!
The class was a deep dive into ways of thinking that will forge the future for Sustainable Floristry. We all experienced the many ways we can begin to approach the challenge. We made great strides thinking of ways we can all begin teaching some of the components of Organic Floristry to the Future Generation of Florists.
In attendance were 20+ esteemed AIFD designer/educators who shared some amazing design ideas.
