Spreading the joy and positivity of flowers in the community is not a one-off event but an ongoing process. Keeping the positive momentum!
Following the third floral workshops “A touch of summer”, Dr. Solomon Leong, AIFD PFCI CFD and his team has just held another series of workshops with the sunshine kids (cancer survivors) at the Children’s Cancer Foundations (CCF) bringing another perspective of floral arrangement to them.
In this workshop, the Chinese elements – “Four Nobles of flowers” are integrated into the floral design. A student volunteer team was formed to support this workshop on rotational basis providing them with opportunities to share with the community and at the same time, to come out from classroom to teach and to share the skill they learned. They are amazed by the creativity and the spirit of “think out of the box” from them.
With their progression in skill level gained from various workshops held throughout the pandemic period, the sunshine kids have joined together with Dr. Solomon’s team to create a beautiful installation in the annual Hong Kong Flower Show 2023.
It was a light and airy design with use of hydrangeas, cymbidium, and oncidium. It also features over 500 hundred origami cranes and 100 strands of lunaria strings in the installation, all laboriously hand made by the sunshine kids from the Hong Kong Children’s Cancer Foundation and our students. This is a true showcase of teamwork love and commitment in which we have won the grand award in unique features at this year’s Hong Kong flower show!
A big thank YOU to our student volunteers and the sunshine kids from the @Children’s Cancer Foundation 兒童癌病基金 . You are our flower heroes!
Legend has it that if you make origami cranes, your wishes will come true. Let‘s make a wish!
